John-Michael Liles leaves game against Wild with leg injury and won't return

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Avalanche defenceman John-Michael Liles has left Colorado's game against the Minnesota Wild with a leg injury.

Liles was hurt in the first period and the Avalanche announced in the second that Liles would not return. Coach Joe Sacco said afterward that Liles injured his quadriceps and that he'd be re-evaluated on Wednesday.

Liles leads the Avalanche in ice time and blocked shots and has not missed a game yet this season. He also leads the Avs this season with a career-high 36 assists and entering Tuesday's play ranked tied for seventh in the NHL in defence scoring with 42 points.

Liles is the highest-scoring defenceman in franchise history.
