Player of the Week - March 7

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Feb. 28 to March 6 is Calgary Flames right winger Jarome Iginla.

With the Flames battling for a playoff position, Iginla stepped up in a big way to lead all NHL scorers over the seven-day period with five goals and eight points. The Flames won three of their four games and Iginla scored in each contest.

Iginla reached a career milestone with his second period goal in a 3-2 win over Nashville. The marker was Iginl’s 30th of the season, making him just the 10th player in NHL history to score that many goals in 10 or more consecutive seasons.

Iginla, who will earn $7 million against the salary cap for two more seasons, is in his 14th season with Calgary and leads the team with 66 points in 68 games.

Is Patrick Roy a good choice for coach of the Colorado Avalanche?

"We're playing the defending champs and you can tell they're not going to beat themselves. That team, just from them going all the way, you can see it over there. There's no panic…You can tell that's a machine over there and we've got to be at our best."
