ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Jonas Gustavsson made 24 saves to backstop the Toronto Marlies to a 3-1 victory over the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League Saturday night.
The Maple Leafs goalie was making his first start with the AHL affiliate since being sent down on a conditioning assignment Thursday. Gustavsson had only made one start since Jan. 7 with the NHL club.
Touted Toronto prospect Nazem Kadri scored in the first period and Matt Lashoff had the go-ahead goal early in the second while on the power play. Simon Gysbers chipped in with two assists.
Fabian Brunnstrom, acquired by the Maple Leafs in a trade with the Dallas Stars on Jan. 15, also scored to give the Marlies some insurance with less than five minutes to play.
Bill Thomas scored the Americans' lone goal and Jacob Markstrom made 30 saves on 33 shots in Rochester's net.
