Player of the Week - Jan. 24

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Jan. 17-23 is Boston Bruins goaltender, Tim Thomas.

Thomas started three games on the week and posted victories in each. First up was a 7-0 route of the Carolina Hurricanes in which Thomas faced 31 shots and turned away them all. It was Thomas’ seventh shutout of the season and second in three games.

The very next night the Bruins were on the road to finish the second half of their home-and-home with the Hurricanes, but this time the outcome was much more hotly contested. Thomas faced 45 shots - the most since he saw 46 against Pittsburgh Nov. 10 - and stopped 43 of them as the Bruins were able to hang onto a 3-2 win.

Finally, facing Colorado on the road Saturday, Thomas allowed two goals on 34 shots and was supported by the Boston offense in a 6-2 win.

On the season, Thomas is 23-5-6 with a 1.84 GAA and .945 save percentage as he continues to be the favorite to take home the Vezina Trophy. Boston stands atop the Northeast Division and third in the East with 61 points.
