Kesler, Green, Kane, St. Louis named all-star alternates for Staal and Lidstrom

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Vancouver winger Ryan Kesler and Washington defenceman Mike Green will serve as alternates to captain Eric Staal on one team in the NHL all-star game, while forwards Patrick Kane of Chicago and Martin St. Louis of Tampa Bay will act as assistants to captain Nicklas Lidstrom on the other.

The foursome was chosen by the league and players association based on input from the all-star players and revealed Saturday morning.

The alternates will help in the selection process during next Friday's fantasy draft to determine the teams for the Jan. 30 all-star game in Raleigh, N.C.

Staal, the dynamic Carolina Hurricanes centre, and Lidstrom, the stalwart Detroit Red Wings defenceman, were named team captains Tuesday.
