Francis Pare scores late to force SO as Griffins go on to beat Marlies 2-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Francis Pare scored a late goal to force extra time and the Grand Rapids Griffins beat the Toronto Marlies 2-1 in a shootout Friday in American Hockey League action.

Pare scored the equalizer for the Griffins (16-15-5) with 1:37 left in the game before scoring in the shootout along with Ilari Filppula and Cory Emmerton.

Christian Hanson gave the Marlies (17-14-6) a 1-0 lead at 13:04 in the third period.

Both teams' goaltenders were superb through the first two scoreless periods.

Grand Rapids goalie Joey MacDonald earned the win with 43 saves, while at the other end Ben Scrivens stopped 40 shots.
