Player of the Week - Nov. 15

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Nov. 8-14 is Montreal Canadiens goalie, Carey Price.

With the weight of Montreal’s rabid hockey fandom on his shoulders after playoff hero Jaroslav Halak was traded in the off-season, Price has done all he can to quell the fears of the faithful.

In the past week Price has been exceptional. The first game was against a Vancouver Canucks team that was in the midst of a six-game winning streak and possessed the league’s second-ranked power play. Price did a perfect job against Canada’s Cup favorites, turning aside all 34 shots for his second shutout of the season and earning a 2-0 victory.

Two nights later against division-rival Boston, Price faced 35 more shots, turning aside all but one and earning a 3-1 victory.

Price made his seventh consecutive start two nights later at home to Carolina and faced another 30 shots, 28 of which he handled. The win was Montreal’s eighth in its last 11 games.

The Canadiens currently sit atop the Northeast Division and third overall in the Eastern Conference with an 11-5-1 record. Price has played in 16 games this season and has posted a 10-5-1 record to go with a sparkling 2.18 GAA and .923 SP.
