When the Anaheim Ducks took Devante Smith-Pelly with the 42nd overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, they knew they were getting a hard-working power forward who makes a living going to the dirty areas.

At six-foot, 211-pounds Smith-Pelly is just as comfortable bowling over opposing defenders as he is lighting the lamp. Last season the Scarborough, Ont., native had 29 goals and 62 points in 60 games with St. Mike’s. And this year he has picked up right where he left off, averaging just less than a point per game in the first one-third of the Ontario League season.

THN’s Ryan Kennedy caught up with the Ducks prospect as he settled into his season with the 2011 Memorial Cup hosts from Mississauga.

Who should the Vancouver Canucks hire as their new head coach?

- Los Angeles' Colin Fraser. The Kings have lost two in a row and are now tied 2-2 in their series against the San Jose Sharks.
