It should be a priority that two referees must stand in at all times to break up a fight.
I was watching the Nov. 5 game between the Red Wings and the Oilers when I noticed the linesman step in and grab Jonathan Ericsson far too early in his fight with Gilbert Brule.
Not only did this leave Ericsson in a vulnerable position, Brule landed a punch to the linesman's face as well.
I realize officials are there to protect the players and Ericsson was losing the fight, but it should be a priority that two officials must jump into every fight before we see a serious injury while one player is tied up without an opportunity to defend himself.
