Player of the Week - Nov. 1

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of Oct. 25-31 is Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas.

You can’t get much better than this. Thomas played two games on the week against division rivals Toronto and Ottawa and didn’t let a single goal get by.

In the first game, Thomas and the Bruins took on the struggling Maple Leafs who were only able to put 20 shots on the board, all of which were turned away by the 36-year-old.

To top it off, two nights later Thomas faced the Senators and the 2009 Vezina Trophy winner stopped all 29 shots he faced to earn his third shutout of the season. The wins bumped the Bruins ahead of the two teams in the Northeast Division.

Thomas seems to have found his form from 2009 early this season. Through six starts, Thomas is 6-0 with a miniscule 0.50 GAA and truly unbelievable .984 save percentage. He has allowed only three goals all season and never more than one in a game. For now, it seems Thomas has taken over the No. 1 role from youngster Tuukka Rask.

All things considered, how would you rate this NHL season?

“I think when you’re at home the first two games, sometimes you get a little bit too comfortable at home. Then you come on the road, maybe it’s like a rude awakening…We’ve had three series to figure that out, learn it. We definitely want to be better (Monday), especially in the first game on the road.”

- Chicago's Patrick Kane. The Blackhawks are 0-3 in Game 3s this playoff.
