Abbotsford scores three times in the third as Heat top Admirals 4-2

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - Abbotsford scored three times in the third period and J.P. Lamoureux made 19 saves for his first win Saturday as the Heat doubled up the Milwaukee Admirals 4-2 in American Hockey League play.

With Abbotsford leading 1-0 after two periods, Matt Keith picked off an errant Jonathon Blum pass and beat Milwaukee goalie Mark Dekanich for his seventh of the season at 1:41.

Carter Bancks made it 3-0 while shorthanded at 3:50 with the Heat rookie finishing off a perfect 2-on-1 feed from Greg Nemisz.

Gaelan Patterson scored Abbotsford's fourth after creating a turnover on another Milwaukee penalty and moving in alone on Dekanich.

"We were just ready to come out and we got some in so we just kept rolling off that," Abbotsford's Cam Cunning said of the third period. "(Lamoureux) played really well for us out there and it's great to have (him) back there."

Milwaukee spoiled Lamoureux's shutout bid late in the third as Matt Halischuk picked up his fourth of the season. Steve Begin the made it 4-2 at 18:09.

"We shot ourselves in the foot in the third," said Blum. "We were happy going into the dressing room 1-0 in their building heading into the third, but we came out and made a couple mistakes.

"Those short-handed goals killed us."

Cunning opened the scoring for the Heat in the first, redirecting a Keith Seabrook point shot past Dekanich.

Milwaukee's best chance of the opening period came when referee Jamie Koharski awarded Jamie Lundmark a penalty shot after Abbotsford defenceman T.J. Brodie shot a broken stick at the Admirals forward.

"I was a little bit surprised, I didn't even know there was a penalty shot," said Lamoureux. "I had to ask the official what was going on, but I played in a few shootouts last year—you just try to calm your nerves and read the shooter."

Dekanich made 29 saves in the loss.
