Buffalo Sabres prospect Zack Kassian sent to junior team in Windsor

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Highly touted prospect Zack Kassian was one of nine players trimmed from the Buffalo Sabres roster on Saturday.

Kassian, the team's first-round pick and 13th overall last year, was returned to his junior team in Windsor, Ontario. The 19-year-old forward posted just one assist while playing in four pre-season games for Buffalo.

In May, Kassian was charged with assault for allegedly punching a man outside a downtown Windsor bar. His lawyer said this week he is negotiating a plea deal and hopes to have the issue resolved by next week.

The Sabres also assigned forwards Luke Adam, Paul Byron and Mark Mancari, defencemen Drew Schiestel, T.J. Brennan and Dennis Persson, and goaltender David Leggio to Portland of the AHL.

Veteran forward Mark Parrish was released from his training camp tryout.
