Hurricanes put Sergei Samsonov on injured reserve with neck injury

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes have placed left winger Sergei Samsonov on injured reserve and say he won't travel with the team to Europe.

The Hurricanes said Thursday that Samsonov would be re-evaluated when the team returns.

Carolina leaves for Europe following Friday afternoon's pre-season game against Atlanta and wraps up the exhibition schedule Monday in Russia before it opens the regular season with two games against Minnesota next week in Finland.

Samsonov injured his neck when he was tripped into the boards in a game last week in Atlanta.
