After reading (and loving) my subscription to THN, I have been surprised at the amount of correspondence that speaks negatively of the salary cap era (and of teams like Chicago that people seem to feel was decimated).
The salary cap works effectively to make the players more responsible for building a winning team. In effect, if winning the Cup is important to you, show it by taking a salary that allows for more, not less, quality players on your team.
Just look at the Canucks: Nearly every big name has taken a club discount.
The only change I think they should make is to have post-season bonuses not count towards a team's cap. This is, in effect, the only rule that punishes the winning team for winning.

"We're playing the defending champs and you can tell they're not going to beat themselves. That team, just from them going all the way, you can see it over there. There's no panic…You can tell that's a machine over there and we've got to be at our best."
