Report: Cristobal Huet to play in Switzerland instead of Chicago

According to Swiss website 20 Minutes Online, Blackhawks goalie Cristobal Huet will play for Fribourg-Gotteron of the Swiss League on 2010-11.

However, according to ESPN, Huet’s agent Stephen Bartlett has said the move is not yet official.

"We’ve talked, but it's not definitive at this point," Bartlett told ESPN. “We'll know if it will happen probably in the next couple of days.”

Loaning Huet to the Swiss League team will save the Blackhawks in excess of $5 million.

Last season, Huet became the backup to Antti Niemi. With Niemi moving on, Marty Turco being signed and Corey Crawford still in the system, Huet’s $5.625 million cap hit has become an albatross.

Huet, who was originally drafted in the seventh round (214th overall) by Los Angeles in 2001, had a 26-14-4 record for Chicago last season. He also had a 2.50 GAA and .895 SP. He was signed as a free agent by Chicago in 2008.
