Report: Maxim Afinogenov signs deal with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL

According to a report on Yahoo Sports, Maxim Afinogenov is on the verge of signing a deal with SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental League.

The deal is said to be for five years, though terms have not yet been disclosed.

Afinogenov played nine seasons in Buffalo before signing a one-year deal with Atlanta prior to the 2009-10 season. The diminutive Russian speedster bounced back from a 20-point season with 24 goals and 61 points in 82 games with the Thrashers.

Afinogenov was picked in the third round (69th overall) by Buffalo in 1997 and has 158 goals and 395 points in 651 career NHL games.
