Flames sign defenceman White to one-year contract worth almost US$3 million

CALGARY - The Calgary Flames avoided arbitration with Ian White by signing the defenceman to a one-year contract Friday.

The deal is worth US$2,999,995, a source told The Canadian Press.

White, a 26-year-old Steinbach, Man., native, recorded 38 points (13 goals, 25 assists) in 83 games last season with the Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs.

White was acquired in a multi-player deal with Toronto last January.

He has 117 points (32-85) in 323 career NHL regular season games.
