When Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Jerry D’Amigo arrived at the team’s rookie camp last summer there was little fanfare surrounding the sixth round (158th overall) selection. There were minor concerns about how the Binghamton, N.Y., native wasn’t prepared and Toronto sent him off to the NCAA’s RPI program to further develop.

The message was clear and D’Amigo listened. The Maple Leafs were impressed with the shape D’Amigo showed up to this year’s camp in and after scoring 34 points in 35 games in the NCAA and winning a gold medal with the USA at the world juniors last season, the 5-foot-11, 196-pounder may be closer to NHL action than many think.

THN writer Adam Proteau caught up with D’Amigo at the Maple Leafs’ prospect camp in Etobicoke, Ont.
