Philadelphia Flyers sign right-winger Nikolai Zherdev to 1-year contract

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Flyers have signed free agent forward Nikolai Zherdev to a one-year contract.

Zherdev had 39 points in 52 games with Atlant-Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League in 2009-10. Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren announced the move on Friday.

Zherdev was selected by Columbus as the fourth overall pick in the 2003 draft. Over parts of five seasons in the NHL with the Blue Jackets and New York Rangers, Zherdev has 239 points.

He last played in the NHL with the Rangers in 2008-09 and had 23 goals and 58 points.
