Phoenix Coyotes coach Dave Tippett captures the Jack Adams Award

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Dave Tippett won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's top coach after helping the Phoenix Coyotes reach the playoffs for the first time in eight years.

He beat out Colorado's Joe Sacco and Nashville's Barry Trotz in voting conducted by the NHL Broadcasters' Association.

Tippett was given the job in Phoenix just days before the season and helped the team to a 28-point turnaround.

He gave credit to the players.

"The adversity that our organization went through, they used that as an unbelievable motivating factor," said Tippett. "We turned into a pretty good team."
