Sabres defenceman Tyler Myers wins Calder Trophy as NHL's top rookie

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Tyler Myers will be bringing some hardware back to Buffalo after winning the Calder Trophy as the NHL's rookie of the year on Wednesday.

The hulking Sabres defenceman beat out Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard and Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene in voting conducted by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association.

Myers finished third in rookie scoring with 48 points and led the Sabres in ice time.

He is the first defenceman to win the award since Barret Jackman in 2003.
