The Hockey News player of the week for the period of May 31-June 6 is the Philadelphia Flyers’ Daniel Briere.
Briere, who leads the Flyers in playoff scoring, has continued scoring in the Stanley Cup final.
Aside from a Game 2 performance Monday in which Briere was held off the scoresheet and limited to one shot on goal, the Gatineau, Que., native has been on of the Flyer’s difference-makers. Trailing 2-0 in the series against Chicago, Briere answered with a goal and an assist in Game 3, recording 21:47 of ice time, his most since Game 3 of the Boston series.
In Game 4, Briere put up another assist in 18:45 of ice time, but was again held to a single shot on goal. Finally, in a Game 5 in which the Flyers were outmatched by the Blackhawks in a 7-4 loss, Briere still managed to record two assists and a plus-1 rating in 21:00 of ice time, despite being held without a shot.
In all, Briere is second in the league in playoff scoring with 11 goals and 27 points, putting him one point behind Jonathan Toews.
