Blackhawks pest Dave Bolland takes pride for throwing Daniel Sedin off his game

VANCOUVER - Daniel Sedin is in the doghouse with one of his biggest fans after a rare attack on an opponent.

The winger?s four-year-old daughter Ronja was not impressed with the way Sedin chased Chicago pest Dave Bolland, tussling with him against the visitors bench and jawing with him in the penalty box during Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinal series.

?She wasn?t too happy,?said Sedin after the Canucks completed their morning skate in preparation for Friday?s Game 4.

He said his daughter has seen him in the sin-bin?a few times, but not very often?and suggested twin brother Henrik goes in more frequently.

?That?s for hooking,?said Daniel Sedin with a chuckle, taking a jab at his sibling.

When she asked by his daughter what pleasantries he and Bolland exchanged from their respective penalty boxes, Sedin declined to answer his offspring. He wasn't revealing anything to reporters either.

?I don?t want to talk about it?It?s not going to happen again,?he said.

However, Bolland took pride in taking the Canucks winger to the penalty box with him.

?I don?t know what I did and I don?t know what happened, but he really snapped on me,?Bolland told reporters after Chicago?s morning skate.?You get a guy like that off his game, it?s pretty big.?

Bolland, a former scoring star in junior, now finds himself on the delivery side of the hacks and whacks as an NHL agitator.

?I hated it, too,?said Bolland, a 23-year-old Mimico, Ont., native.?Guys would get under my nerves. I?d take stupid penalties and would start jabbing at guys.?

In his final year of junior in 2005-06, the former London Knight recorded 130 points. He hopes, eventually, to play more of an offensive role with the Hawks.

?It would have been nice if I could be that scorer here,?he said.?In time, it could change. Right now, I?m a checker.?

He credits his defensive development to his former Knights coach Dale Hunter, the notorious former NHL super-pest who accumulated 3,563 penalty minutes in regular season play and another 727 in the playoffs between 1980-81 and 1998-99.

While playing for the Washington Capitals in the 1993 playoffs, Hunter received one of the longest suspensions in league history, 21 games for a blindside hit on then New York Islanders star Pierre Turgeon.

?You guys know how he played,?said Bolland.?He was actually a great coach. He always got me ready and made me a little bit smarter on the ice, not just thinking about offence.

?He was a good influence.?
