Player of the Week - May 3, 2010

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of April 26-May 2 is San Jose Sharks center Joe Pavelski.

The American Olympian has been a pleasant surprise leader for the Sharks this post-season and his performance over the first two games of their series with Detroit has helped San Jose to a 2-0 series lead.

In Game 1, Pavelski logged 23:24 of ice time, scoring two goals – including the game-winner – and adding an assist for a three-point night. Then, three nights later in Game 2 at the Shark Tank, Pavelski again put up two goals and three points, logging 22:44 of ice time and getting 11 shots on net.

San Jose won the first two games of their second round series against Detroit at home and head on the road with home ice advantage still in their court.

‘Little Joe’ has become the go-to Joe in a lineup that includes Team Canada Olympian Joe Thornton. Through eight games this post-season, Pavelski leads the league in goals with nine and his 14 points is two behind the leader, Sidney Crosby.

Who should the Vancouver Canucks hire as their new head coach?

"Last year we came in as maybe an underdog, quietly. Got off to the right start just because teams weren't really ready for us. But this time around that's not the case. They realize we are a good team and they're ready to go against us, right off the get-go."

- Los Angeles' Colin Fraser. The Kings have lost two in a row and are now tied 2-2 in their series against the San Jose Sharks.
