Give the NHL a hand

Having just watched Detroit score a goal on Phoenix that required reviewing to ensure that it was not a high stick, I was just about to roll my eyes as the referee reached for his microphone to announce the verdict.

To my surprise and delight, he did not announce it over the loudspeaker, rather he pointed to center ice (signifying that it was indeed a goal). How I long for the days when the league did not assume the audience is stupid and cannot follow the two possible hand gestures that would suggest that a goal was either allowed or disallowed.

As if the roar of the crowd reacting to those gestures was not enough to clue in even the most casual viewer.

Please change it back, NHL. It's simply more fun the old way.
