Caps goalie Jose Theodore, centre Nicklas Backstrom OK for Game 1

ARLINGTON, Va. - Washington Capitals goaltender Jose Theodore is ready for the playoff opener despite getting hit in the knee by a puck in practice this week.

Theodore is in good spirits and says his knee is fine after taking part in Thursday's morning skate before the evening's Game 1 against the Montreal Canadiens.

Theodore left practice early Wednesday after getting struck by a shot from David Steckel.

Centre Nicklas Backstrom is also set to play despite an illness that has kept him in bed for much of two days. He sniffled while talking to reporters and said he would take a nap before the game.

Coach Bruce Boudreau was also confident both will be available. He said: "I know Nicky's going to play and Theo's going to play."
