Player of the Week - March 29, 2010

Starting the week still in the thick of the playoff race, the Ottawa Senators needed, and got, great performances from goaltender Brian Elliott in all four games on the week.

To kick it off, Elliott and the Sens faced the Montreal Canadiens, one of the teams Ottawa was involved with in the race. On the road, Elliott managed to turn aside all 29 shots he faced and the Sens pulled away with a 2-0 win.

The very next night Ottawa was back home against another team in the mix, the Philadelphia Flyers. This time facing 26 shots, Elliott earned his first back-to-back shutouts in the NHL and his fifth of this season as the Sens again managed a close 2-0 win.

After getting a few nights off, the Sens were in Buffalo Friday to face the division-leading Sabres. Going head-to-head with Vezina Trophy favorite Ryan Miller, Elliott turned away 41 shots, allowing two goals and coming away with a 4-2 win.

Finally, Ottawa and Elliott capped off a busy week with a home game against Florida Saturday night. In another close contest, Elliott faced 22 shots, turning aside 20 of them and earning a 3-2 win to bring the Sens to within five points of the Sabres, who have two games in hand.

With his four wins on the week, Elliott brought his record to 27-17-3, while his GAA sits at 2.50 and his SP at .911.

Ottawa has six games remaining on its schedule and stands fifth in the conference with a 41-30-5 record and 87 points.
