Hit goalies? No way

In your March 15 issue, someone wrote in supporting the hitting of goaltenders, saying, "they have the most equipment, therefore they have the most protection."

This is a ridiculous statement.

Goaltending equipment and player equipment are completely different. Players' equipment has been designed and innovated over the years to absorb body contact and collisions with the ice, sticks, and other players. A goaltender's equipment has been designed to protect from pucks and pucks alone.

It’s like comparing a suit of armor with a Kevlar vest; two different pieces of equipment for two different purposes.
