THN’s player of the week for Feb. 1-7, 2010 is – surprise! – Washington Capitals left winger Alex Ovechkin.
On the heels of his three-goal, four-point tour de force Sunday afternoon versus Pittsburgh, Ovechkin, 24, has raised his league-leading goal total to 42 and has suddenly built an eight-point bulge between himself and Vancouver center Henrik Sedin atop the scoring race – all while having missed six games with a shoulder injury and two via suspension.
For the week, the Moscow, Russia native had seven goals and 10 points in four games; two goals and three points came with the man advantage. Ovechkin was plus-6 for the week and managed 18 shots on goal in the four games.
