The Quebec League has decided to suspend Patrice Cormier of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies for the rest of the regular season and playoffs for his elbow on Mikael Tam of the Quebec Remparts last week.
The incident has garnered immense media attention because of the ferocity of the hit and the impact it had on Tam. The elbow to the head sent Tam into convulsions on the ice and he had to be taken to the to the hospital with brain trauma.
Four days ago the Ontario League suspended Zach Kassian 20 games for his charge on Matt Kennedy of the Barrie Colts Jan. 14.
Tam is currently out of hospital, but it isn’t yet known whether he will be able to continue his hockey-playing career.
Cormier, the captain of Team Canada’s world junior team this year, was picked in the second round (54th overall) of the 2008 draft by the New Jersey Devils.
