If Kovy's in the cards, Hawks must deal

Brian Quast , Minooka, Ill.

The phrase “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” may very well suit the Chicago Blackhawks this season, however the person who coined that phrase likely wasn’t an NHL GM with the opportunity of adding Ilya Kovalchuk to their roster just in time for a playoff run!

I understand that team chemistry is very important and that ‘Hawks management may not want to mess with a good thing, but when you consider that they have major cap issues to deal with in the off-season; the opportunity of solving those issues now and improving their chances of winning the Stanley Cup by trading players like Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker and Dustin Byfuglien to Atlanta for a ‘rental player’ like Kovalchuk may inspire them to adopt a new term: “Carpe Diem.”
