After suffering a dirty hit recently, Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall will miss 4-to-8 weeks with a sprained ligament in his left knee.
The player guilty of the hit, Montreal enforcer Georges Laraque, was only suspended for five games, which is woefully inadequate.
To properly punish players for vicious hits, they should be suspended for as many games as his victim is out with an injury.
In addition, the player's team should not be able to replace him on their roster.
This will send a clear message to the teams and players, which hopefully will cut down on such vicious hits.
