Nobody likes a know-it-all, but surely it’s better than being a know-nothing, right?

While you’re wrestling with that to-know-or-not-to-know dilemma, here are a few observations from around the NHL through the first month of regular season action.

Did you know…

…that Anaheim Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski, who was obtained from Chicago in the trade deadline deal for Sami Pahlsson last March, had 10 assists in 12 games? He’d have more helpers, but he’s just coming off a two-game suspension for elbowing Phoenix’s Shane Doan in the head and also missed three games with a shoulder injury in mid-October.

…that Rich Peverley, who was claimed off of waivers from Nashville last January, leads Atlanta with 21 points through 16 games? Peverley, who made it to the NHL as an undrafted free agent after four years at St. Lawrence University (NCAA), has a total of 56 points in 55 games with the Thrashers going back to last season; previously, he had 20 points 73 games with the Predators.

…that concussion-ravaged Patrice Bergeron (Boston) and Tim Connolly (Buffalo) are leading their respective teams in scoring? Welcome back, guys.

…that the only Calgary Flames forward who has yet to score a goal is none other than Craig Conroy, with five assists through 17 games?

…that the Carolina Hurricanes don’t have a single player on pace for 50 points?

…that Chicago netminder Cristobal Huet surrendered three-or-more goals five times in his first six outings, but just once in his next eight starts?

…that every one of Colorado rookie Ryan O’Reilly’s 14 points (in 19 games) has come at even strength?

…that Dallas Stars sophomore winger James Neal has 10 goals and 19 points in 16 games? He had 24 goals and 37 points in 77 games as an underrated rookie last season.

…that Tomas Holmstrom (nine) is the only Red Wings forward with more goals than Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall (five)?

…that Florida Panthers starting goalie Tomas Vokoun is 4-8-1 with a 2.73 goals-against average, while backup Scott Clemmensen is 2-1-0 with a 5.14 GAA?

…that Tomas Plekanec – and not Montreal GM Bob Gainey’s three-headed monster of Scott Gomez, Brian Gionta and Michael Cammalleri – is leading the Canadiens in scoring, with 17 points through 19 games?

…that New Jersey forwards Zach Parise (nine), David Clarkson (six) and Travis Zajac (six) have scored 21 goals, compared to 22 by the rest of the Devils team?

…that Philadelphia Flyers defenseman – and power play specialist – Matt Carle is a league-leading plus-15 through 15 games? It helps that he’s been paired up with Chris Pronger (plus-12).

…that Phoenix Coyotes winger Scottie Upshall is leading the Cy Young race with a 6-0 record? (Upshall has six goals and zero assists.) Other contenders: Alex Ovechkin, (14-9); Steven Stamkos, (13-6); Ryan Malone, (11-5); Ilya Kovalchuk, (12-5); Teemu Selanne, (9-1); Mason Raymond, (8-2); and Raffi Torres, (8-1).

…that St. Louis winger David Perron has seven goals and 11 points in his past 10 contests after going scoreless in his first seven games of the season?

…that Stamkos (13 goals) and Malone (11) have outscored the rest of the Lightning’s players 24-18?

…that Toronto defenseman Tomas Kaberle is tied for the overall NHL assist lead, with 18 in 17 games?

…that Vancouver Canucks defenseman Kevin ‘The Brawler’ Bieksa had the most penalty minutes in the NHL with 61 through 20 games?

…that Washington’s Jose Theodore has more starts than Semyon Varlamov (12 to seven), but two fewer victories (five to seven)?
