Something has to be done when "clean" hits are more and more resulting in players being seriously injured.
The game has changed radically in many ways. The players are bigger, stronger and faster. The equipment is large, plastic and used to hurt the opponent.
The boards are now so rigid that there is really no noise when a player is checked hard into the glass. It’s like hitting a brick wall.
The old plexiglass would give quite a bit and the noise would really rev up the crowd. At the same time there were less injuries because the glass would give, rocking back and forth for a few seconds after a big hit.
I'm afraid someone is going to be injured badly or even die because the obvious is being ignored by the league and the Players’ Association.
