Boston Bruins sign backup goalie Tuukka Rask to a 2-year contract extension

BOSTON - The Boston Bruins have signed backup goalie Tuukka Rask to a US$2.5-million, two-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through the 2011-12 season.

The 22-year-old Finn has appeared in nine NHL games with a 5-2-2 record and 2.43 goals-against average as Tim Thomas' backup. Rask shut out the Edmonton Oilers 2-0 in his last start on Oct. 31.

Rask is in the final year of his entry-level deal that pays him $850,000 this season. He'll make $1 million next season and $1.5 million in 2011-12. He's

Rask spent most of the last two seasons with Providence of the AHL, posting a 60-33-6 record and five shutouts in 102 appearances.
