NEW YORK - Carolina Hurricanes forward Tuomo Ruutu has been suspended three games for his hit on Colorado's Darcy Tucker.

The NHL announced the suspension Saturday after Ruutu hit Tucker hard into the boards during Colorado's 5-4 victory Friday.

Tucker suffered a concussion while Ruutu was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct.

Ruutu will forfeit just over US$59,000 in salary and won't be eligible to return to the ice until Nov. 1 against San Jose.

All things considered, how would you rate this NHL season?

“I think when you’re at home the first two games, sometimes you get a little bit too comfortable at home. Then you come on the road, maybe it’s like a rude awakening…We’ve had three series to figure that out, learn it. We definitely want to be better (Monday), especially in the first game on the road.”
