Player of the Week - Oct. 12

The Hockey News player of the week for the period of October 5-11 is San Jose Sharks sniper Dany Heatley.

The formerly disgruntled Ottawa Senators left winger has found a new home alongside Joe Thornton on San Jose’s top line. The two have clicked immediately and are currently tied with Washington’s duo of Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin for the NHL scoring lead.

In three games last week, Heatley tallied five goals and eight points to go along with a plus-5 rating. In the only loss in the past seven days for San Jose, Heatley managed three points in 20-plus minutes of ice time.

Then, against Columbus and Minnesota, Heatley scored the game-winner in both contests and put up six shots plus a hat trick versus the stingy Blue Jackets defense.

So far this season, Heatley is averaging two points per game and is proving to be the perfect mate to lineup next to Joe Thornton’s playmaking savvy.
