Bulldogs win first ever Gardiner Cup hockey tournament, 3-1 over Marlies

EDINBURGH, Scotland - The Hamilton Bulldogs captured the first ever Gardiner Cup on Sunday after beating the Toronto Marlies 3-1 to win the four-team tournament.

Hamilton opened the scoring at 4:01 into the first. Brock Trotter grabbed a loose puck in front of Marlies goaltender James Reimer and put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0.

Andre Benoit made it 2-0 in the second while Hamilton enjoyed a five-on-three advantage, but Toronto's Dale Mitchell replied a minute later to cut the lead to one.

Trotter added his second goal of the game at 10:12 in the second period to seal the win for Hamilton.

Cedrick Desjardins made 19 saves for the win, while at the other end Reimer stopped 33 shots.
