Chris Mason stones the Stars as Blues win 5-0 in pre-season action

DALLAS - Chris Mason made 29 saves and Brad Winchester and Derek Armstrong scored first-period power-play goals in the St. Louis Blues' 5-0 exhibition victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.

Erik Johnson and Alex Steen added even-strength goals, and David Backes connected on the power play with 7:24 left for the Blues (4-1-1)

Marty Turco stopped 14 shots for Dallas (3-4-0).

Winchester guided Andy McDonald's centring pass through Turco's pads at 9:01 of the opening period. Armstrong made it 2-0 at 14:11 with his third goal of the pre-season, converting on another man-advantage situation.

Johnson's rebound at 6:02 of the second period extended the Blues' lead to 3-0, and Steen made it 4-0 3:02 later.

Each team has one pre-season game left before opening the regular season next weekend. The Stars get underway at home against Nashville on Oct. 3 and the Blues meet Detroit on Oct. 2 and 3 in Stockholm, Sweden.
