Brodeur, Zubrus leads Devils past Flyers 1-0 in pre-season action

NEWARK, N.J. - Martin Brodeur made 21 saves and Dainius Zubrus scored his first goal of the pre-season in the New Jersey Devils' 1-0 exhibition victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night.

Zubrus's shot from the top of the slot sailed past Flyers goalie Brian Boucher at 1:40 of the opening period to help the Devils improve to 3-0-1.

"We had our ups and downs in the first and second periods, but we were able to finish them off in the end," Zubrus said

Brodeur, coming off a 2-1 overtime loss in Philadelphia on Thursday night in his first pre-season start, fended off a 5-on-3 power play midway through the first and grabbed Blair Betts' blast from the left circle with 6:06 left in the second.

"Marty was very solid, very good tonight," Devils coach Jacques Lemaire said. "That is the goaltender I know."

Boucher left the ice because of a lower-body injury midway through the first period. He made two saves and gave up the goal before being replaced by Ray Emery.

Emery finished with 25 saves for Philadelphia (2-3-1).
