NHL suspends Morency for five regular-season games and pre-season

TORONTO - The National Hockey League suspended New York Islanders forward Pascal Morency for five regular season games and the remainder of the pre-season Monday.

Morency had been suspended indefinitely after receiving a game misconduct for leaving the bench to start a fight with Calgary defenceman Dion Phaneuf in a game last Thursday.

Phaneuf's hit knocked out Islanders forward Kyle Okposo in the second period of the Flames' 5-4 shootout victory.

Morency jumped off the bench and charged Phaneuf, starting a brawl that included New York goalie Martin Biron. Okposo remained motionless for more than six minutes. He was immobilized and removed from the ice on a stretcher.

Morency has already served two games of the suspension. He will miss the remaining three games on the Islanders pre-season schedule in addition to the five regular season games.
