Report: Ian Penny named interim executive director of NHLPA

According to Canadian sports network TSN, Ian Penny has been unanimously selected as interim executive director of the NHL Players' Association.

The report states Penny is not interested in taking the role full-time.

Early Monday morning the 30 team representatives voted to fire Paul Kelly during meetings in Chicago. Before Kelly was fired by the union, Penny served as general counsel.

In October 2007, Kelly was named the fourth executive director of the NHLPA. Penny has served as staff counsel for the union since 2000 and was promoted in 2007.

The union does not have any leads on Kelly's full-time replacement yet.
