LA Kings re-sign blue-liner Jack Johnson to two-year deal

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings are keeping defenceman Jack Johnson around.

The club signed the restricted free agent to a two-year contract on Friday.

Johnson, who missed 41 games last season because of a shoulder injury, still finished with a career-high with 11 points (six goals, five assists), which tied him for first in goal scoring among Kings' defencemen.

The 6-1, 225-pound Indianapolis native also tied for first among NHL defencemen with three shootout goals this past season.

He represented Team USA at this year's world championships where his five goals led all defencemen in the tournament.

Johnson, who was originally selected by Carolina third overall in the 2005 draft, was acquired by the Kings on Sept. 29, 2006.

I don't think J.J was trying to go for less. Personally I am shocked they kept J.J. and traded Quincey. I love Jack but he is Injury prone. Last year he missed half the season. The year before that was the last month or so. nThen again maybe Sully called hima nd said, Hey remember how fast Dean shipped me out last season? Don't get caught off gard like i did sign now. LOL. Good to have Jack back, but i would have loved to have seen Kyle on our blue line as well. GO KINGS!!!!!

Last year the Kings and Patrick O'Sullivan struggled to come to terms on a contract. Finally Sully signs a 3 year deal with the Kings, and then they trade him. I hope they don't do the same thing to JMFJ...

“I was coming in to take the boards away and had some good jump. He bobbled the puck at the last second and I don’t think he saw me coming at all. It was a shoulder right in his chest. He’s eight feet tall, so it’s not like you could hit him in the head.”
