Flames grab Nigel Dawes off waivers from the Coyotes

The Calgary Flames have claimed Nigel Dawes off waivers.

Dawes, a native of Winnipeg, Man., has 133 games of NHL experience split between the New York Rangers and the Phoenix Coyotes scoring 25 goals and 51 career points.

Dawes was originally drafted by the Rangers in the fifth round (149th overall) in the 2003 NHL draft.

Dawes has previous experience with two of the Flames coaches having won the 2005 world junior championship as a member of Team Canada under Brent Sutter and claiming the 2002 Memorial Cup with the Kootenay Ice under Ryan McGill.

I agree pokecheck. Look at how the last 10-15 years the Leafs traded away prospects and good young players in return for end of their career players who in turn left and the Leafs ended up with nothing. Finnally someone is in charge who will fix that problem in Toronto. Phoenix needs to pony up if they want to keep that team. They have still got alot of young talent. Now they need owners and management to fill in the gaps with supporting players. It comes down to do something good or lose that team. If it is the case that Phoenix can't afford to keep players then should they have a team at all?

Nigel wasn't going to bring Stanley back to Phoenix but what the heck are they doing in Phoenix, trading vets for youth and then losing that youth for nothing because they refuse to pay the guy what he wants. Which considering his career point totals would likely not exceed a million dollars. Prime example of the biggest problem of hockey in the desert: inept management and inept ownership. Nobody wants to watch a team that sucks forever. Even the Leafs would lose its fanbase eventually if they continued to not make the playoffs for years and years on end, making no real progress to developing a contending team.
