This year’s draft boasted a bounty of quality defensemen.

Three rearguards were taken in the top 10 and 12 in the first round. The Nashville Predators were one of the teams that went the defensive route when they choose Ryan Ellis 11th overall.

Ellis is an offensive defenseman coming off a Memorial Cup season in which he led all OHL defenders in regular-season scoring with 89 points.

Ryan Kennedy takes a closer look at the Predators’ first round acquisition.
