Game 4 of the NHL Stanley Cup final earns highest cable TV rating since 2002

NEW YORK - Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals has earned the series' highest cable television rating since 2002.

The Pittsburgh Penguins' 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Versus on Thursday night drew a 2.8 rating and averaged 3.45 million viewers. The network said Monday that the average 2.7 rating for Games 3 and 4 was up 42 per cent over the two games it aired last year. Versus showed Games 1 and 2 in 2008.

The 2.8 rating was the highest on Versus, beating the previous record set by Game 3.

motoxxx -- I completely agree. Also factor in that Game 4 was also on opening night of the Lakers-Magic series.

I'm confused. So the Pens tie the series and the number of people watching drops? What is this supposed to tell us? I mean, there's no possible reason that, if you watched game 4, you wouldn't watch game 5. If you're a Wings fan you tune in to see the home game you're sure they'll win. If you’re a Pens fan you tune in to see if they can keep the momentum alive. I think these numbers are incorrect or at the very lease a poor representation of the actual viewing public. When it boils down to it, they mean nothing.
