Playdown for the first pick

With all the speculation of teams intentionally tanking to get a high draft pick I thought of an idea to help solve this problem of the last place team getting the first selection.

After the regular season ends hold a sudden death elimination match between all non-playoff teams. The winner of that playoff gets the first overall pick at the draft and the finalist gets the second pick, third place selects third and so on. This way no team could tank to their benefit because you would have to win the playoff to get a good pick.

It is also much more exciting than the NHL draft lottery, where the teams are just plainly announced.
