Gainey's net loss

I've been a huge Habs and Bob Gainey fan for most of my life, but I can't help but think Gainey's decision to sit on his hands at this year's trade deadline was not the best move for him or the team.

I think trading for Vincent Lecavalier is a move he should have made this year. I heard someone say Tampa Bay wanted too much for him, but Gainey could have negotiated down. Besides, everyone talks about how deep Montreal is in young talent on the farm in Hamilton, couldn't Gainey have recovered that lost talent in a year or so?

Every time I see Matt D'Agostini miss a scoring chance, or Andrei Markov shoot into the shin pads of an opposing forward I think, "I'll bet Vinny would have scored."

Sorry Gainey. I'm afraid now you're left with what Guy Lafleur once called a team with four really good fourth lines.
