The Hockey News Goalie Mask Tournament - The Finale

Zoom Image

As we found out this year with THN’s Greatest Masks of All Time special issue, people love goalie masks.

For the sporting set, it’s a work of art: a perfect canvas for skulls, stars and fierce, glowing animal eyes.

But which one is your favorite these days? Turns out it was the man in Blue and White.

Whether it was Leaf Nation seizing an opportunity for glory in an inglorious season, or simply our readers’ preference for one big ice-cool skull over two flaming ones, Toronto goaltender Vesa Toskala is the winner of our THN goalie mask tournament.

Toskala narrowly beat Finnish countryman Miikka Kiprusoff in the final, garnering a slim 51 percent majority of votes.

The Calgary Flames star was the last victim in Toskala’s march to the title, one that also saw Philly’s Antero Niittymaki and New York’s Henrik Lundqvist fall by the wayside.

Thanks to all the voters who made this tournament possible!
