The Hockey News’ player of the week for Jan. 19-25, 2009 is Edmonton Oilers right winger Ales Hemsky.
It was a light week on the NHL schedule, but in his team's lone game, Hemsky notched two goals and two assists in a 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets Jan. 20.
The win put the Oilers two points up on Columbus and into a playoff spot as the NHL entered its all-star break.
The 6-foot, 192-pound native of Pardubice, Czech Republic, had 41 points in 36 games at the break to led the Oilers and is on pace for 82 points, which would be a career high.
